Mommy Issues - a Trilogy
by Thalia Honorat
my mother’s biggest fear
One of my mother’s biggest fears
Is that she becomes her mother.
Growing up I was close to mine
And we agreed all the time.
This time is no different.
my mother’s tears
First drop
Last drop
In both,
the first
sign was
red eyes
glistened
white mold
shines on
old meat.
First drop
Last drop
both shed
same way
same cause
same question.
response?
echo.
my mother’s love
Is no feminine grace,
gentle blossoming empathy,
bottomless well of comfort.
Is an airplane propeller,
Locked in and moving forward
At the cost of infinite birds.
Is heavy to hold and impossible to forget,
Powered by indiscriminate energy
Soaring eternal and regardless.
Is utopia or entropy,
waiting on freedom.
